Closed Fluid Cell Accessory for the MFP-3D System

Download PDF

The Closed Fluid Cell (CFC) allows fluid imaging in a completely sealed environment. The CFC does not require use with a separate Heater Controller.

Design
The CFC is designed to hold liquids either statically or as part of a flow-through setup. The CFC seals the environment by means of a flexible membrane which mounts to the MFP-3D cantilever holder.
The flexible membrane allows the tip to move freely relative to the sample, thereby allowing for distortion free scans. In addition to the membrane, the CFC and cantilever holder system employ O-rings that are replaceable, and provide seals that can maintain up to 6' (2m) of water pressure. The CFC contains four 1/16" diameter ports, and six 0.036" (20 gauge needle) ports for fluid exchange via syringe injection, gravity feed, or pump systems.

Sample Holder
Each cell consists of a PEEK™ base that holds a 35mm diameter by 1mm thick glass disc for sample mounting. This glass disc can be replaced with special mounts for use with thin glass cover slips and high NA microscope objectives. The fluid cell is magnetically held to the MFP-3D scanner and supports both bottom view and top view optics. Sample viewing range is a 10mm viewing circle within the cell when open. When closed and scanning, there is a 1-3mm viewing circle within the cell.

Easy Cleaning Alleviates Contamination
All of the CFC components can be easily removed and cleaned. The only materials that contact with the fluid are PEEK, glass, silicone, and Viton® (O-ring material). The materials in the cantilever holder, Kel-F, stainless steel and quartz, are the only other materials that may come in contact with the fluid. The whole CFC can be sterilized in an autoclave.

Additional specifications can be found in the Environmental Controls Data Sheet.
