Northeast Technical Sales Manager - Scientific Instrumentation / AFM Sales

Asylum Research, an Oxford Instruments Company, is looking for an experienced and technically savvy individual to join our US sales team. Based out of our Concord Mass office, but primarily working from home and on the road, you will build relationships with new and existing customers in academia, government, and industry in order to expand our presence in the high-performance AFM market..

The Role

  • Manage and close direct sales in the Northeast region.
  • Qualify prospects and manage realistic expectations with customer’s applications, ensuring a good match with our product capabilities and customer satisfaction before and after every sale.
  • Coordinate with the apps and marketing teams for successful execution of equipment demos, sample imaging, new and existing customer visits, workshops, conferences, and exhibitions.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline to ensure success.

The Candidate

Successful candidates will have:

  • Substantial experience selling into high tech capital goods markets
  • An advanced engineering or science degree, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • An innovative, proactive attitude with a passion for research instrumentation
  • Willingness to travel throughout assigned territory (greater than 50% of the time)
  • The ability to manage uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Proven sales skill in all aspects of the customers buying process

Preferred candidates will have:

  • In-depth AFM experience
  • Knowledge of surface analysis techniques

Software Development Manager ($125k+)

Asylum Research, an Oxford Instruments Company, is seeking a software development manager to join our fast-paced, collaborative software development group in Santa Barbara, California. Our pragmatic DevOps software team is entering an exciting time of expansion and new product development, and we are looking for a few more talented people to establish a solid foundation for this growth. As an essential member of the software team, your contribution will enable our instruments to analyze data at the cutting edge of nanotechnology.

The Role

  • Lead and grow a talented team of embedded / C++ and UX developers, as well as a growing QA group
  • Build and develop the software team in size and capability by directing recruitment, managing performance and providing overall leadership support for individuals and the group as a whole
  • Monitor project progress and utilization of available resources within the software group, and adapt as needed to efficiently and effectively meet agreed deadlines and specifications
  • Facilitate productive communication between functional development teams and between the overall software group and other parts of the company (marketing, R&D, hardware, management, etc)
  • Function as a hands-on member of the software development team as needed

The Candidate

Successful candidates will have:

  • At least 5, ideally 10, years of experience developing software for advanced instrumentation, factory automation, or a related technical field
  • Management experience, preferably leading a software development team
  • Experience with DevOps, QA, continuous integration, change and release management
  • Knowledge of C++ and C# as well as scripting languages and Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Advanced working knowledge of Agile software development processes
  • The ability to effectively lead a group of very technically skilled software engineers and to understand multiple perspectives in order to plan and manage the overall software development strategy
  • Exceptionally clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • The ability to inspire others to contribute and excel at what they do
  • Degree in scientific, engineering or computer related field; or equivalent experience
